Sometimes we need someone to simply be there. Not to fix anything or to do anything in particular, but just to let us feel that we are cared for and supported. This was heavy on my heart a few months ago; and a few girl friends of mine kept coming to mind.
I felt these ladies needed to be shown support, they needed to know they had someone in their corner and while a women’s retreat would have been ideal, the reality is we simply don’t have the time or money for ourselves these days; regardless of how desperately we may need it.
I am sure the retreats are worth every penny and should be a priority in our over-worked, over-stressed and over-booked schedules. We all know that if you don’t have the time for self care and relaxation, then you are not functioning at your full potential to do the things you are passionate about; whether that is your career or your family, etc. We all need a break of some sort.

So I offered an alternative…
A mini retreat at my home; where a warm fire was ready, snacks were prepared to munch on, drinks were poured and friends laughed together. Some of these friends I have known for almost 20 years and I wanted to give them a rustic resort atmosphere, where they were able to relax, hangout, refresh and recharge; even if it was only for a few hours.
We don’t take time out for ourselves and something as simple as fellowship can do wonders. A night that was supposed to be a gift from me to my friends turned into an inspirational and empowering night for all of us. It was a night without make up, in comfy leggings by a backyard fire. It was a night where women gathered to speak love and support to each other. A night where we spoke of our dreams and goals. A night filled with encouragement and laughter.

This was a night where we were reminded that nothing will change unless you change it. Of course that sounds like a common sense and obvious statement but let that statement sink in a little.
If you want to live the life you imagine that you can live, should live, or want to live, then you have to be the one in control. It is not always easy. If you don’t feel empowered to direct and control your life, it can get away from you. No matter what you are seeking, it can only happen if you do something about it. Tired of people treating you poorly? Do something about it. Tired of being sick and unhealthy? Do something about it. Want your kids to do what they are told without ever arguing? Do… well, that might be impossible, but you can make it better. The point is, nothing changes if nothing changes. CAN I GET AN AMEN!? If you want something to be better, it is up to each of us to take the necessary steps to see
that it happens. Empowerment is the process of increasing the capacity to make choices and to transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes.
Lets keep this thing going, lets motivate and encourage and push each other to be the best that we can be. There is too much wrong and dirty and ugly in the world that we can easily get lost in. Lets keep each other positive and strong and beautiful, and help guide each other down our own paths to greatness! We are the Movers, the Makers and the Shakers!
